Do you feel like you are deeply attuned to other peopleโ€™s emotions, and tend to absorb their energy? You have felt like this for a long time, but have never been able to understand why this happens to you, and not other people. There are even times when you feel overwhelmed with all sorts of emotions, be it yours or someone elseโ€™s. Well then, chances are that you are an empath.




An empath is someone who is highly sensitive to outside stimuli such as frantic environments, loud personalities, and noise. They might find themselves feeling emotionally drained and exhausted when too much is going on around them, and they donโ€™t know exactly how to quiet everything down.

The following traits will help you better understand how an empath really functions:

1. Knowing.

Empaths just know stuff, without being told. They are highly attuned with their surroundings. Their understanding goes beyond intuition or gut feelings.

2. Being In Public Places Can Be Overwhelming.

Places like shopping malls, supermarkets or stadiums fill empaths with turbulently vexed emotions. They get confused by the overlapping of so many energy sources.

3. Feeling Otherโ€™s Emotions And Taking Them On As Your Own.

They feel emotions off those nearby. They can feel emotions from those a vast distance away too. They are great at detecting negative energies around them, even from afar.




4. Watching Violence, Cruelty Or Tragedy On The TV Is Unbearable.

Any morbid incident, cruelty or gruesome scenes on television shows or newspaper is impossible for them to bear.

5. They Know When Someone Is Being Dishonest.

They are human lie -detectors. If anyone is lying to them, they just come to know it. If someone is saying one thing but feeling/thinking another, they know.

6. Picking Up The Physical Symptoms Of Others.

They will almost always develop the ailments off other people (colds, eye infections, body aches and pains). They can imbibe the symptoms of their close people or people they feel mentally connected too.

7. Digestive Disorders And Lower Back Problems.

Empaths feel the incoming emotions of other people. This can physically weaken them and eventually lead to stomach ulcers to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Lower back problems can develop from being ungrounded.

8. Always Looking Out For The Underdog.

Their attention and compassion are always drawn by people in need. If someone is suffering, in emotional pain or is being bullied, they will be moved. They are always ready to help people who are genuinely in need. 




9. Others Will Try To Offload Their Problems On You, Even Strangers.

Empaths can become a dumping ground for everyone elseโ€™s issues and problems, even strangersโ€™. They are very good receivers of other peopleโ€™s problems pertaining to the fact that they have the capacity to put themselves in the other personโ€™s shoes and deeply understand their problems.

10. Constant Fatigue.

They often get drained of energy, either from energy vampires or just by taking on too much from others. They feel drained of their energy, to the point where mere sleep canโ€™t cure them.

To block out the emotions of others, they might sometimes turn to substance dependence. It is a form of self-protection to suppress their emotions and a mechanism to unload the negativity absorbed from people around them.

12. Drawn To Healing, Holistic Therapies, And All Things Metaphysical.

Although they can heal others they end up turning away from being healers. Anything of a philosophical nature like death, the afterlife is of interest to them. They have good insight and understanding about factual things.

From singing, dancing, acting, drawing, or writing an empath has a strong creative streak. They have a vivid imagination which helps them to create and engage in innovative ventures.

Being outdoors in nature is a must for them and pets are an essential part of their life.

They will go stir-crazy if they donโ€™t get quiet time. Empaths heal themselves with the silence of solitude.

At home, at school or at the workplace, an empath always needs to be internally stimulated. If they get bored, they end up daydreaming or doodling.

To have unanswered questions can be frustrating for an empath. They will endeavor to find an explanation. If they have a knowing about something, they will look for confirmation.

20. Likes Adventure, Freedom, And Travel.

Empaths are free spirits. It is not possible to bind them, confine them or shackle them in any way.

Resentment, jealousy, anger, hatred and other negative emotions make an empath feel weighed down. These negative emotions block the energy flow of the empath.

An empath can stare into space for hours. They love to stay drowned in their self-created world.

Anything thatโ€™s been pre-owned carries the energy of the previous owner. An empath will prefer to have no residual energies in the things they buy.

26. Sense The Energy Of Food.

Many empaths are vegetarians. This is because they can sense the vibrations of the dead animals others eat.

Empaths are prone to mood swings. If they have absorbed too much negativity, they will appear quiet and unsociable. They are genuine people and hate to fake their emotions in social contexts.
