Understanding The Seven Layers Of The Human Aura: Their Functions and Meanings

The human aura is an energy field encompassing our physical form. Comprising seven distinct layers, these layers of human aura influence our physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual states.

What is Human Aura?

An aura typically refers to an electromagnetic field of energy that surrounds all living beings. Experts and psychics claim that the human aura can be seen as a luminous, colorful body that surrounds our physical body and consists of different layers.

Each layer represents different aspects of the physical and spiritual self. As our aura is an extension of our living presence, everything from trees to animals has an energy field around them, explains Healthline.

This energy field can expand and contract depending on our health, mindset, mood, behavior, and actions. This energy field is often explained as a transparent enclosure of light that surrounds us from head to toe.

According to spiritual beliefs, our aura tends to be ovoid and is usually narrow at the feet but wide at the head. We radiate this energy while interacting with others and it can make others either relaxed or uncomfortable. This is considered as a reaction of others to the energy we omit.

What are the Auric Layers?

The human aura has seven primary layers and is located one inside the other. These are influenced by our spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical states. The auric layers radiate outwards from our physical bodies.

The first level or layer is nearest to our body, while the 7th layer is farthest away from our physical body. The different layers relate to one of the major seven chakras and can impenetrable other layers and our physical form.

The layers transmit vital information to the external environment through our chakra energy centers. Each specific layer has a distinct vibration which becomes stronger as it moves outwards with the outer layers having the highest vibrations.

Although there are more than seven layers, only the primary ones are important as they correspond to the 7 main chakras or energy centers of our body. Depending on our phase in life, the layers of the human aura also vary in size and depth.

When you are mentally and physically healthy, each layer of energy field can become very bright and large, spanning several feet. However, our auric field can be weak and small when we are unhealthy, either mentally or physically.

The layers with even numbers tend to be fluid while the ones with odd numbers are more structured, which helps to harmonize and balance our energy. It is believed that the 3 lesser astral layers that help to build our personality are connected to our physical form, which appears at birth and dissipates at the time of death.

7 Layers of Human Aura

The 7 layers of the human aura are mentioned and described as follows โ€“

1. Etheric layer

This is the first layer and is related to the root chakra. The Etheric body enables our physical form to sustain by acting as a bridge between our physical self and other โ€œsubtle bodies.โ€

Being nearest to our physical body, the first layer spans almost 2 inches from our skin and outlines the entire body. Consisting of minute energy channels, known as โ€˜nadisโ€™, it radiates energies to our physical consciousness from the higher bodies. This layer is highly dense as it is the closest to the physical state.

However, its vibration is higher than our physical body. This layer is connected with both internal and external conditions, such as thoughts, emotions, lifestyle, and immediate environment. The Etheric body is related to our health and vitality and complements our physical life and well-being.

Here are some of the most common features of the first layer:

  • Closest to our physical state
  • Related to the physical body, organs, glands, muscles, bones etc
  • Associated with the Muladhara or root chakra
  • Has a greyish blue color
  • Vibrates at 15-20 cycles per minute
  • Can be easily observed with practice
  • Strongest in people who are physically active, weakness in people who are unhealthy or have a sedentary lifestyle

This first level is in constant motion. Although most people are unable to see it, this is usually the first thing practitioners and psychics see when they start observing auras. You can stimulate the Etheric body by practicing yoga (pranayama), Taoist yoga, chi kung, tai chi, etc.

2. Emotional layer

The 2nd layer of the human aura is associated with our emotions and is reflective of our present mood. It is located immediately after the first layer and spans 1 to 3 inches beyond our physical state.

Related to the sacral chakra, the emotional layer holds our feelings and emotions, like love, happiness, sorrow, hate, sensitivity, etc.

This layer can interpenetrate the Etheric and the physical bodies and enables us to sense various emotions by driving consciousness & connecting the mind and body. This second layer is in a constant state of change and deals with difficult emotions like loneliness, resentment, and fear as well.

Here are some of the common features of the second auric layer:

  • Second closest to our physical body
  • Reflective of our emotions and moods
  • Related to the Swadhisthana or the sacral chakra
  • Includes all the colors of the rainbow
  • Emotional distress can turn the color muddy
  • Helps to determine the state of different chakras

The energies in the emotional body interact with the etheric body which is then transmitted to the physical body. This layer enables us to experience emotions, imaginations, desires, and even psychic abilities.

It takes the form of the physical body and manifests the full range of human emotions, including altruism and selfishness. It takes adequate practice to see this layer. By arousing desire, we can stimulate emotional consciousness.

3. Mental layer

Located outside the second layer, the mental body is related to the third chakra, known as the solar plexus chakra. Spanning 3 to 8 inches from our physical body, it holds our mental thought processes, ego, judgments, discipline, regulations, etc.

It is also associated with our intellect, consciousness, logic, ideas, personal power, and beliefs. However, the layer tends to expand when we are engaged in deep thoughts. This layer is represented by a vivid yellow color as thoughts create a noticeable vibration.

This layer helps to validate all our thoughts and logical processes. The third layer represents our mental health and any psychological conditions we may have. The mental body has a higher vibration than the first two layers.

Some of the common characteristics of the third layer include the following โ€“

  • Placed third from our physical body
  • Related to our cognitive processes, ego, mental state and thoughts
  • Has a vivid and bright yellow color
  • Associated with the Manipura or sacral chakra
  • Typically vibrates strongly near our head, neck and shoulders
  • Stronger in people with an overactive mind or engaged in mental tasks
  • Creativity also helps to strengthen it

The third layer of the human aura helps our cognitive abilities and enables us to identify and engage in thoughts, ideas, beliefs & superior mental abilities. This layer helps us interpret the path of life and fulfill our destiny.

The stronger and higher mental abilities we have, the better the layer is expressed in our physical body. This layer can be stimulated by engaging in tasks like meditation, reading, research, teaching, and energy stimulation.

4. Astral bridge layer

The astral body or the astral bridge layer is the bridge between the higher vibrations of the spiritual plane or the higher 3 layers and the lower vibrations of the physical plane or the lower 3 layers.

Also represented by the rainbow colors and sometimes by pink light, the fourth human aura layer is associated with the heart chakra. This particular layer is important for our spiritual development as it empowers us to become a channel for high vibrations.

This spiritual layer can extend to 8 to 12 inches beyond our physical body and depends on our spiritual health. Although this layer may be a bit chaotic, it acts as a bridge to the astral plane. It is associated with our wellbeing, life balance, spiritual growth, and sense of love.

Here are some of the most common features of the fourth layer:

  • Fourth from our physical body
  • Connected to the Anahata or heart chakra
  • Manifestation of our astral cords with others
  • Rainbow colored or rosy pink in color
  • Love and intimate relationships strengthen it
  • Relationship conflicts, separation or breakups can weaken it
  • Helps to view state of the chakras

This layer is a doorway to the astral plane, provides healing energies, and connects us to the higher dimensions of reality. This layer can cause certain emotional experiences, such as vision, imagination, fantasies, dreams, hallucinations, out-of-body experiences, and near-death experiences.

This layer can be stimulated through meditation, psychic development techniques, astral projection/travel techniques, shamanic practices, yoga (pranayama), psychedelic drugs,  lucid dreaming, biochemical imbalances, energy stimulation, and even certain injuries.

Usually, this layer is 1 to 2 feet beyond the physical body. It represents creativity, communication, vibration, and sound as it is associated with the throat chakra & how we speak. This layer is often seen as the negative of a photograph and is believed to be a blueprint of our physical body.

Spanning for almost two and a half feet away from the body, the celestial layer helps us to experience a sense of unconditional love.

The sixth layer helps to develop our wisdom and intuition. However, it can be often very challenging to observe as it has a shimmering colorful glow. This layer is considered a reflection of our subconscious mind and is regarded as a place where the spiritual mind meets the physical mind through spiritual practices like meditation.

The celestial layer of the human aura is connected with our intuitive knowledge, higher intellectual knowledge, spiritual awareness, dreams, memories, honesty, trust &  unconditional love. It holds things that are greater than our own selves.

7. Causal layer

Also known as the spiritual layer or the Ketheric Template, it is the seventh layer of the human aura. Spanning up to 3 to 5 feet depending on our spiritual state, this final layer is connected with universal consciousness and the divine.

โ€œThe energies in this body spin with a very high frequency. This is where the soul communicates with the conscious mind via the subconscious mind in the mental body,โ€ explains Dr. Gaynor du Perez, President of the Center of Universal Awakening.

It is connected with the crown chakra or the seventh chakra and includes the soul contract โ€“ the plan of our life. It is associated with all the experiences and expertise our soul has gathered during this present life.

It protects and holds all the other auric layers together and vibrates at the highest frequency. Containing a brilliant golden or white-colored light, the causal layer holds our collective consciousness.

Dr. Gaynor du Perez adds โ€œConsciousness is expressed in higher concepts of knowledge or belief systems. When we bring our consciousness to the 7th layer of the aura, we know that we are one with the creator.โ€

The layer helps us with our life path in their current physical incarnation and provides information about our past lives. However, this information is typically out of our reach unless it is crucial for our spiritual development.

Some of the common characteristics of the seventh layer include the following โ€“

  • Farthest from our physical body
  • Contains information about previous lives and our soul
  • Connected to the Sahasrara or crown chakra

Consciousness And Its Three Stages Of Processing

Discover Consciousness And Its 3 Stages of Processing

How does the brain craft consciousness from the unseen? Dive into the hidden mechanics shaping perception in this article below!

In a few months, this blog will turn 15 years of age. How time flies when one is thinking about consciousness and the brain! I think the 15-year mark is a good point at which to write a series of posts that synthesize many of the conclusions (including new ideas) that we have discussed regarding consciousness and the brain.

I have concluded that a useful way in which to divide up the conclusions is to present them in terms of three stages of processing in the brain:

Stage 1: Unconscious processes preceding, and giving rise to, the construction of the โ€œconscious fieldโ€; Stage 2: The conscious field; and Stage 3: Unconscious processes following, and
