6 Simple Steps To ‘Bless And Release’ The Past

Pain and loss are inevitable companions in one’s journey through life. The mantra “bless and release” yields six transformative steps to heal and free oneself from emotional baggage.

When a relationship ends, we lose someone dear to us or our careers stutter, these are situations that can make us feel downcast and stuck.

But such brooding over the past only retards our path to recovery. On the other hand, adopting the “blessing and releasing” motto helps in finding solace and accepting life as it is.

Bless and Release Meaning

Detachment in Buddhism does not mean that you will stop loving and caring about someone. Instead, it means giving up expectations. Thus, “bless and release” implies acceptance, allowing things to go through you and then letting them pass over you.

Here are six straightforward powerful ways you can incorporate blessing and releasing into your daily life:

1. Start By Recognizing Your Feelings

To to let go, you must first acknowledge them. Allow yourself to grieve deeply. Burying emotions only makes things worse in the long run.

As Maya Angelou famously said: “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”

By acknowledging your emotions you will start your healing journey.

2. Exercise Forgiveness

Holding on to anger and hatred only destroys your own soul. Forgiving doesn’t mean what others did was right; rather it is about removing yourself from being affected by rage and resentment towards those who hurt you.

Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies.” according to Nelson Mandela.

When forgiving others including yourself, an individual unfastens him/herself from his/her past allowing forward movement with a lighter spirit.

3. Learn To Let Go Of Expectations

Many times pain results from expectations that were never met properly. You will be disappointed so much if you cling onto such expectations like those for oneself or others generally in life.

Accept that nothing lasts forever and everything must change thus letting go of how things should be done instead of focusing on how they could unfold every minute.

Buddha reminds everyone saying,” The trouble is that you think you have time.” Embrace this moment now without waiting for tomorrow.

4. Appreciate The Good Things

bless and release

It is often difficult to see what good things we have since they are obscured by our agonies and losses.

But through gratitude, it is possible to alter this. Reflect on those little yet significant things you got every day as said in Melody Beattie’s quote “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more.

Instead of focusing on what you don’t have, concentrate on the abundance that surrounds you.

5. Be Flexible

Life is not static and change can be either embraced or resisted out of fear. However, considering that change is a natural part of life, one should resolve to make it a friend rather than an enemy because by so doing he/she will allow new possibilities and growth to enter his/her life.

Lao Tzu asserts in his wise words that, ”Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality.”

Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” Believe in your journey; trust everything happens for a reason within the universe.

6. Surrender Control

The pain we experience often stems from our wanting to direct the outcome of certain situations and conditions over which we can have no influence. Nonetheless, real serenity only comes when we stop pretending that we are in control and believe in a higher power.

Eckhart Tolle once said “Some changes look negative on the surface but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge.”

Surrendering control doesn’t mean giving up; it means letting go of the need to micromanage every aspect of your life and trusting in the wisdom of the universe.
